Heroes of the BibleSample

Sibling rivalry is something that most families have to deal with, but Joseph and his brothers are the ultimate example of how sibling rivalry can get out of control. When Joseph was young his father favored him the most. His father gave him a special coat and Joseph did not have to work like his older brothers did. His brothers envied him and sold him as a slave. Can you imagine what that must have been like for Joseph?
Joseph had to face may trails after he was sold into slavery, but God was with him every step of the way. Through a series of events, Joseph became second in command of Egypt and oversaw the country during a great famine. The famine led his brothers to come to Egypt to ask for food. When they came to Joseph they didn’t recognize him at first.
This passage picks up in the story when Joseph not only reveals his identity to his brothers, but also chooses to forgive them. I love the example Joseph gives us of what true forgiveness and faith in God looks like. He choose to trust God had a plan for him, and because of that relationship he had with God, he was able to forgive his brothers. Who in your life needs forgiveness? How can you take the first step in forgiving that person today?
