Through Her Eyes: A Call to Extravagant Devotion That Defies Culture

DAY 5 OF 8

Dead End

After a four-day slumber, all hope seemed to be lost. With Lazarus gone before Jesus had arrived, how could they go on?  Mary and Martha were broken at the scene. After all, they were human.

In our own ways, we can relate to Mary’s words to Jesus when she said, “Lord if only you had been here...” Those words carried pain.  She was also broken. She felt like all hope was lost. She thought it was too late.

How did Jesus respond? He was moved by the tears, and released some of His own. Jesus wept.

With a God so attuned to our emotions, there’s no need to hide our greatest pain, fears, hopes, and desires. We often only want to give Jesus our best and not our ugly, but it's okay to express how we feel to Him and not be guilty about it. He cares about every detail of our lives.

Mary was hurting because she had never before seen Jesus raise a man from the dead who had been deceased for four days. She could not comprehend the possibility.

Like Mary, what are you hurting about? What do you think Jesus can't handle? Our pretense is a waste before him. He's moved by what we feel and He can do the impossible. The Lord desires vulnerability in the midst of our brokenness, and there's no need to conceal our deepest emotions. Jesus can take it all.

Challenge:

Ask the Lord to remind you of a time that you were vulnerable with Him.

How did He lead you through that season?

Ask Him how He wants to bring greater healing and resurrection in your life.

About this Plan

Through Her Eyes: A Call to Extravagant Devotion That Defies Culture

In this eight part devotional series, join Mary of Bethany on a journey of discovery of the worth of Jesus. Engage in the interactions that left her convinced, even though other’s missed it. May we witness her storyline, make it our own, and be empowered to walk in the extravagant devotion that writes history.
