Through Her Eyes: A Call to Extravagant Devotion That Defies CultureSample
A Listening Ear and a Receptive Heart
If you could be described in the pages of history in a single sentence, how would you want to be remembered?
There are very few things we know about Mary of Bethany, but this is the first description we have of her in scripture. She is one “who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to His teaching.” We don’t know about her social status, her beauty, or the amount of education she received. Rather, we know the most important thing about her, which was her response to Jesus.
The most important thing about your life is your relationship with the Lord. How do you respond to Him? Her posture was one of attention. Her ears tuned to His voice soaking up every word. This is the heart posture we are invited to embody. Sit at His feet and listen to His word. How do we do this? We open the Word, and we have a dialogue with the Lord. We listen to Him in a posture of prayer. We study the Word. We think about it. We speak it. We become lifelong students of God’s Word. We become like the man described in Psalm 1 who is meditating upon God’s word day and night. May this be our life ambition: to be an attentive student of the Word and one who listens to Jesus.
Challenge:
Are you a student of the Word of God?
Ask the Lord to give you an increased hunger for His Word.

About this Plan
In this eight part devotional series, join Mary of Bethany on a journey of discovery of the worth of Jesus. Engage in the interactions that left her convinced, even though other’s missed it. May we witness her storyline, make it our own, and be empowered to walk in the extravagant devotion that writes history.
