Luke continues his account for Theophilus of Jesus’ birth, life, death, and continuing influence across the known world. Acts is an appropriate name for a narrative of action. We see the rapid geographical and numerical expansion of the Church as the disciples are filled with the Holy Spirit and begin to boldly tell others about Jesus' fulfillment of the Father's loving plan for redemption. The disciples see the evidence of His continuing love for humanity through healings and other supernatural miracles. Yet, the Jewish religious authorities still see Jesus' gospel and the divinely-given power His followers now carry forward as a threat to their own power. As they go against the status quo, those proclaiming Jesus are falsely accused of disturbing the peace, and are persecuted even unto to prison and death.
