MarkSample
In Mark 4, Jesus is sharing a story with a large crowd on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. As I read this story, it quickly became clear that Jesus' story wasn't actually about a farmer growing his field, but about Jesus' followers.
First, Jesus talks about the seeds scattered across the footpath. Here, he is talking about those who have hard hearts and hear what Jesus is saying but have their minds changed quickly by Satan, doubting Jesus.
The second seed Jesus talks about is the seed that landed in the rocky soil. This seed represents those who love Jesus and hear what he says but instead give up when following him becomes hard or unpopular.
The third seed that landed in the thorns represents those who hear Jesus' message, but it becomes crowded by worries of life and wanting things or money.
The final seed is the seed that landed in the good soil. These followers of Jesus listen to what he says then live it out.
So, what type of seed are you? I know I would like to say I am, have been, and always will be the final seed, but that's not the truth.
Rooting yourself in Jesus can be a daily choice. The days I choose to put Jesus first throughout my day are the days I find more love, joy, and peace.
It takes time to grow our roots in Jesus, but we know it is well worth the time.
How can I, today, root my life in Jesus? What can I do right now to grow roots for the future? Maybe your next step is talking to God about what you have been going through or sharing Jesus with one of your friends! Whatever it might be, God will be with you.
Dear God,
Thank you for all you have given me! Today, help me put you first and root myself in you. Show me where I need to grow my roots and my relationship with you.
Amen.
Karly, 17

About this Plan
As followers of Jesus, one of the best things we can do is look at Jesus’ life and learn from him. Join us as we look at one of the biographies of Jesus - the Gospel of Mark. Each day has a suggested reading, but don't let that stop you from reading the entire chapter!
