In My Boat: Trusting God in the Midst of the Storm Sample
Cocooned
“This was not what you promised me. This was not the plan; I trusted you.“ These were the exact words a friend of mine had penned to God in one of his many letters to Him. I can only imagine how miserable he must have been at the time he wrote that letter.
He would later share with me how he, at some point, had an identity crisis because nothing was adding up. He could not understand how this loving and kind Father in whom he had so much faith would leave him hanging after taking him that far.
Life is too complex for us to do it alone, unaided without a guide. We should make enquiring for direction and guidance for the next step from God a lifestyle. He knows the way. He is and will always be faithful to direct us. The Bible records that He has good and perfect plans for us, to bring us to an expected end. This doesn’t mean that we won’t have to journey through storms, but that in those moments, He will wrap us in a cocoon of past testimonies and a protective embrace while clearing a path to safety for us.
We are fickle and easily forget how faithful God has been to us over time. We forget His great deliverances from both the small and seemingly big things. We forget the divine hugs that comforted us and the joy that were gifted us. We forget the healing and the laughter He birthed in us.. But fortunate is the man who is able to recall and keep close to his heart the many blessings God has bestowed on him. In his dark days, he will be comforted and strengthened in his spirit.
It is difficult to see or grasp what the storm is about, but would you dare to trust God that He will calm this storm because He has done it before and He will yet calm this one? The storm will cease, your joy will be complete and you will bask in experiential knowledge of how faithful God has been to you.
Prayer
Dear God,
I thank you for your faithfulness and all the testimonies you’ve showered upon me even in the storm.
In Jesus' Name!
Amen.
