There's Hope For Today

DAY 274 OF 366

SIERRA MAESTRA, NICARAGUA: Brenda lived a double life. She worked at the school by day and worked the streets at night. Abandoned by her husband, she sold her body to provide for her children.

The hopelessness in such circumstances numbs the soul even as it wastes the body. Brenda needed a real friend; someone to break her out of her prison of darkness. A OneHope team from California visited Brenda’s school. They delivered the Book of Hope and invited Brenda to the Crusade that night. Brenda was waiting outside before the doors were opened. She heard a simple Gospel message, and when the altar call was given, she came weeping. “I want to change my life,” she said. “I can’t continue living the way I’m living.”

What can a group of American volunteers offer someone like Brenda, struggling in the grips of poverty and prostitution? They can offer her truth that sets a captive free. They can offer her a local church to minister to her family and disciple her in the Scriptures. In a word, they can offer her HOPE!

Brenda left the crusade with a glow on her face and peace in her heart. For the first time in a long time … Brenda held hope for the future.
