There's Hope For Today

DAY 272 OF 366

How dull and dead the church becomes when we reduce God to church-going and ritual. I wonder, should we have ears to hear on Sunday morning, if God does not shout from heaven, “Oh please, you’re not going to do that again, are you?” The Bible reveals a God who is incredibly creative. Just three verses into the Book we find Him at work: “Let there be.” Just a few verses before the curtain drops with a final amen in Revelation, we find Him declaring, “Behold, I make all things new.”

We serve the God who revels in the work of transformation, reformation, recreation, and reconciliation. We serve the God who rescues, renews, and revives. We serve the God who made everything from nothing; brings to nothing the plans of my enemies; plans our days; and sets our paths in right places.

We serve the God of the new day, the new year, the new life, the new creation, the new birth, and the new covenant. The heart of God grieves over his faithless and stubborn children. I wonder if God finds His children incredibly boring?

Christ is come to the earth. It’s time to sing, and dance, and build, and reach. We have the most exciting mission on planet earth. Get out of the box. It might be a coffin.
