There's Hope For Today

DAY 178 OF 366

Why is all the good stuff fattening, and the bland stuff healthy? Why does it take two hours to run off what I ate in ten minutes? Why does it always rain on my day off? Why does the government tax people when they die? How come some people have ten talents, and I have two? Why does an honest soldier die on the last day of the war, and a scoundrel survive to amount to nothing? Why do the rich get richer while the poor struggle to get by? Why does the lowest seed play the highest seed in the first round of a tournament?

I’ll tell you why ... because life is unfair! I was born into a Christian household in a prosperous nation. I have had access to education and multiplied opportunities. I have enjoyed good health. I look to the future with bright hopes. The inequities of the western way of life are glaring, when compared to the third world.

One day, the great Judge will settle all accounts. With perfect justice, He will examine us all. Having received the lion’s share of earthly blessing, will we be praised for our stewardship, or rebuked for our selfishness?

God placed you and me in an unfair world to display His mercy, grace and generosity. Are we living up to our responsibilities?
