There's Hope For Today

DAY 168 OF 366

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL: On a Friday afternoon, everything was ready for the long anticipated OneHope distribution in the massive Brazilian city. Teams and leaders were in place. Schools were scheduled, transportation was provided, and the governor’s approval was secured. Saturday distribution would begin through a local church in a slum area called the Rocinha.

As is so often the case with OneHope distributions, a few miracles are needed along the way to get things rolling. The miracle needed in Rio centered on the books; they were still held in customs as teams were preparing for distribution to start the next morning.

At four o’clock in the afternoon, the books had not been released, and OneHope representatives were unable to get an appointment to see the proper customs official.

José Bernardo remembers that stressful afternoon: “We were near despair, but then we remembered that this ministry belongs to the Lord and we are just His helpers. We started to pray and within one hour we had the customs official on the phone!” José couldn’t believe what he was hearing: “If you come now, I’ll go to liberate your books.”

When we pray, God unlocks prison doors.
