There's Hope For TodaySample
The courtroom fills. You sit at the defendant’s table, falsely accused. Though you find the court intimidating, you’re not worried. Your friends are loyal, and you know that they will testify on your behalf. The bailiff cries, “All rise,” and the judge takes his seat. As the court comes to order, your hopes soar. Your friends, like brothers, have gathered in support.
The opening statements by the prosecution are baseless. You sit back and wait for your friends to come to your aid. The prosecutor calls his first witness. There must be some mistake. You spin around in your chair to see your best friend walking to the witness stand. Your best friend is a witness for the prosecution! You’re speechless, wide-eyed, terrified, confused. One by one, your friends testify against you. Mercifully, you wake up from this nightmare.
For Israel, this nightmare was a living reality. Edom should have come to her rescue. Blood should have bound these two nations against a common enemy, but Edom delighted in the destruction of Jerusalem. God destroyed Edom for her treachery.
The tiny book of Obadiah, and the empty ruins of Edom, stand as an eternal reminder – it is a fearful thing to stand on the other side of God.
