There's Hope For TodaySample
What an incredible promise God made Joshua – and what a wonderful life Joshua lived in response to God’s promise.
Talk about your “Renaissance Man!” Here is a guy who seems to have the whole package. He is a warrior, a servant, a protégé, a leader, a lover of God’s presence, a portrait of integrity, an administrator, a wise judge, and a conqueror. Joshua’s life was not marred by eruptions of egomania, or abuse of power. His flaws are not revealed in the Scriptures.
I’ve thought a lot about Joshua. I’ve wondered how God chooses men for certain tasks. Billy Graham has often said that the first question he wants answered in heaven is, “Lord, why me?” This much is certain: Joshua was entrusted with the leadership of Israel during a most critical time. Once across the Jordan, Israel could have easily been pinned against her banks. A weak or corrupted leader might have spelled early disaster and frustration to a plan that God set in motion while Israel was captive in Egypt.
If I want God to use me as He did Joshua, I should seek to be like the “Renaissance Man” in character and surrender. Sterling character, a humble heart, a surrendered will, and the touch of God make a man capable of any task.
