There's Hope For Today

DAY 126 OF 366

A female voice in line behind me cursed the three high-tech companies she held stock in. She had followed the legion of Americans trying to cash in on the stock market rocket ride.

She cursed again, and I glanced over my shoulder expecting to see a thirty-something banker type tapping away at her palm pilot. Instead, I saw a gray-headed granny with a cane and an attitude. Two elderly friends listened as her assault on money managers continued. I winced as a set of red-hot expletives caused a chuckle down the line. She looked like a saint and cussed like a sailor. I dared another glance. She caught my eye and raised an eyebrow as if to say, “What’s your problem, boy?”

I’ve been cussed at a few times – and good. Somehow I knew that “granny” could surpass all the cussers I had ever known. I looked away and moved up to the register to pay for my groceries. When I left she was cussing a popular banking stock. It just goes to show you that outward appearances can be very deceiving.

When God looks at us, He sees us as we truly are. We had better be real when we seek His blessings or sing His praise. No amount of Sunday posturing or put-up piety can hide a dirty heart.
