There's Hope For Today

DAY 122 OF 366

“I wish I had controlled myself,” I said, the morning after the sleepless night brought on by overeating on a cruise where excess is encouraged and splurging is expected. There is food everywhere … and always. There is constant temptation to snack. They don’t film “the Biggest Loser” on a cruise ship. It’s the perfect place to turn yourself into a contestant. If the disciples had been on a cruise, they would have scarfed the 12 baskets of bread and fish before their boats touched the shore at Capernaum … or perhaps, they would have needed an extra boat? If the disciples had eaten like us, Peter, with his impulsive personality, just might have been in need of a visit to the scooter store. Judas would have suggested that multiplying loaves and fishes could be a very profitable venture indeed. Chances are one of the inner circle would have missed the transfiguration – seeing as it involved hiking up a mountain. Peter and John might not have run to the tomb on Resurrection Sunday. Diabetes might have kept Thomas from India. The fellowship of the Christian table is rich, but bondage to food is … well … bondage! It’s the “elephant in the sanctuary” that preachers dare not recognize. What ever happened to self-control?
