There's Hope For Today

DAY 102 OF 366

Danny Cox was in big trouble. He was riding 79,000 horsepower at 60,000 feet, 1,200 miles per hour, upside-down ... on fire! The cockpit was smoky. The control panel was lit up like a Christmas tree. This was the kind of morning that puts the “test” in “test pilot.” Cox toggled his radio and called control central. “May-Day, May-Day, May-Day. I’m at 60,000 feet, upside-down, and on fire. Request landing instructions.”

Put me in that situation and I would have been babbling away like Barney Fife on speed. I marvel that Danny was able to do anything but scream.

How do you respond when life is one supersonic fireball? Some people bail out, others dig in, yet some find the courage, strength, and guidance to land safely and live to fly another day.

Danny’s call tells the story. First of all, he admitted his problem. I know people who are crashing fast, but they won’t admit it. Then he asked for guidance. “Request landing instructions” has become a prayer for me since I read Danny’s story.

When life is out of control, He’s not. When you don’t know what to do, He does. Make the call, but don’t delay. Burning up is one step removed from blowing up.
