CONCRETE & CRANES: A 7-Day Devotional for Kids

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2 - Our Father

Jesus often went alone to pray. Talking to God, the Father, was really important to Him. Talking to God (prayer) should be really important to us as well. Jesus even showed us how to pray. You may have heard of “The Lord’s Prayer” or “The Model Prayer.” Jesus taught His followers about prayer. Matthew 6:9–15 is one of the Bible passages that talks about it. Let’s look at the first part of the prayer today. Jesus began His prayer by honoring God for who He is. God is holy (set apart, unique) and yet, He is our heavenly Father. Jesus taught us to focus on who God is first when we begin to pray.

When you see people you really care about and they call your name with big smiles on their faces, don’t you feel special and loved? That’s what we are doing for God when we begin prayers that are just excited to be talking to Him.

NAIL IT DOWN

On another occasion, Jesus had just finished praying and His disciples asked Him to teach them to pray. Jesus used some of the same words to tell them how to pray. You can find it in your Bible in Luke 11:1–4.

PRAY

When you pray today, remember that God is your heavenly Father who loves you. Spend some time just talking to God about the wonderful, loving Father God He is.

About this Plan

CONCRETE & CRANES: A 7-Day Devotional for Kids

When I think about the kids in my life, both in my family and at my church, I pray that each of them will discover the strong foundation of love that Jesus is. This 7-day devotional specifically focuses on prayer, a huge part of the framework of our faith. This excerpt is part of the book Concrete and Cranes: 100 Devotions Building on the Love of Jesus.
