Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 54 OF 63

Where I Belong

Every so often in life when everything is just as it should be, when we are with the right people, in the right place, and doing the right things, we feel for a moment that we are right where we belong — at home. However, often it can be so hard to know where we fit or what our purpose is. In the first verse of this psalm, we are given answers to some of life’s biggest questions. We know where we belong; we know what we are made to do! It is so fitting to praise God. That is what we are created for and that is where we will feel content and at home, in praise of the one who designed us, created us, and loves us.

We spend our lives trying to get people to praise us, to think well of us, to reflect positively on us or speak well of us, and we do this because we want to put ourselves in the place of God, thinking it will fill our hearts and give us contentment. However, the opposite is true; when we take our eyes off ourselves and put them on God, we will have ample reason to praise Him, and we will feel pleasant and fitting as we do so. When we praise God, we are where we belong and where we will be for eternity.

Questions

1. How much of your time and effort goes into getting people to think well of you?

2. How much of your time and effort goes into getting people to think well of God?

3. How much of your time and effort goes into you thinking well of God?

4. What reasons do we see in the rest of this psalm to be at home as we praise God?

Pray

Pray that God will draw you in to abide in Him and feel at home in who He is.

About this Plan

Abiding in the Psalms

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
