Gregg Matte - 5 Steps to Take During a StormSample
Heart of Worship
Step four is to worship when we are wet. What does this mean? It means to worship God even when we have failed. Do you know what I have found to be a sweet moment in my times with the Lord? It is when I have been worried and anxious and chose to put on some worship music. The peace that comes over me at that moment is incredible.
I’m not a good singer, but I want to be a great worshiper. You don’t have to be a good singer to be a good worshiper. Listen to music that praises His name and sing to the Lord. There are moments that tears stream down my face because I know I have sunk, and God has rescued me. I sit and worship Him for saving me. Worship Him because He is worthy. He had grabbed your hand and saved you when you were sinking.
Often, we think that worship is what we do on Sundays. We kind of get shined up, put on our best duds, comb our hair, brush our teeth, and now we’re ready to worship. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. But know that even in the boat, you can worship when you’re wet. You can worship amid failure. You can worship at 2 a.m. when you’re saying, “Dear God, help me.”
The passage says, “Then those in the boat worshiped Him and said, ‘Truly You are the Son of God!’” Keep focused and growing even in the hard times. And do you know what I like about this? Whose worship do you think was the deepest? I’m going to guess that it was Peter’s. Peter’s worship was the deepest because he was the one that was out of the boat. The rest of the guys are like, “Why didn’t I do that?”
Peter stepped back in the boat, rescued by the Lord, and then worshiped. And indeed, they realized He was the Son of God. Isn’t this interesting? In the book of John, this is the fifth miracle. It seems like they would have known He was the Son of God on the first four, you know? But sometimes we’re a little hard-headed, aren’t we?
Worship God through your failures.
