Gregg Matte - 5 Steps to Take During a StormSample
Jesus Walks on Water
This plan gives you five steps of a follower of Jesus Christ. If you like to know what to do, I will tell you exactly what to do. If you want to know step-by-step, I will tell you the steps. This application-based devotional will encourage you in your walk as a follower of Christ.
Your goal, as a believer, is to follow Jesus’ path. It is hypocrisy when we have Christ going down one path and Christians going down another. Paul said, “Follow me, as I follow Christ.” You are called to lead. Whether you are leading at home, work, in your city, or elsewhere, your leadership will be based on your followership. It is based on whom you are following, and that should be Jesus Christ. He is using you and working in your heart, and it is through Him that you will lead and serve others well.
In Matthew 14, we read a story about Jesus and His disciples. He had just finished feeding a crowd of 5000 when He led His disciples to get on a boat. Instead of joining them, He chose to go pray on the mountainside. The disciples encounter a storm while on the boat and become afraid. When Jesus sees their struggle, He walks across the water over to them, and immediately says, “Take courage! It is I. Do not be afraid.”
The disciples are startled. They believe that Jesus is a ghost. Therefore, Peter answers, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come onto the water with You.” I love Peter because he is one who will jump out there. He wanted to go with Jesus. Jesus tells him to come, and as Peter climbs out of the boat, he begins to walk on water toward Jesus. The Scriptures say that when Peter saw the strength of the winds, he became afraid, began to sink, and cried out to Jesus, “Save me, Lord!” Immediately, Jesus reaches out His hand, catches him, and says, “You surely don’t have much faith. Why do you doubt?”
Jesus immediately reached out for Peter, and He will do the same for you, even if you doubt. Jesus is your Savior. He forgave your sin and loves you more than you could ever know. You can walk in grace daily because of His love for you. Give Him your hand, and He will reach out to you.
