Get Excited About Reading the Bible!Sample
DECIDE, THEN GET HELP
You have the power to make a quality decision in your life. No one will do it for you. But you can decide to be a daily Bible reader. I encourage you to say that out loud: “I’m a daily Bible reader.” Write it down somewhere. Own it. Commit to it.
Then once you’ve done that, ask God for help! Don’t you think He will help you develop a daily habit of getting to know Him better? Of learning and growing up spiritually? Of course, He will! He wants you to seek Him because He has great things to tell you, awesome paths to lead you on. He has a good plan for your life, and He wants you to know what it is and how to walk in it!
Then once you’ve asked Him for help, ask some other Christians you know to help you. Ask them what they do for their daily devotions.
Ask them to partner with you. Statistics show that you have a better chance of following through with things—anything from exercise to eating right to developing a daily devotional habit—if you do it with someone. For one thing, it’s just more fun, and more importantly, it keeps you accountable.
Don’t worry if you miss a few times, or you’re slow in making this into a habit. Guilt is not the right motivator! Remember, you’re doing this to get closer to God – to find answers for your life so that you’re blessed to be a blessing.
The important thing is that you start and make a plan that you can follow. You’re a Bible reader now – it’s part of your being. Do whatever it takes to keep at it.
