Get Excited About Reading the Bible!

DAY 1 OF 5

WHAT’S HOLDING YOU BACK?

Not long ago, I did an informal survey on social media and asked people, “What keeps you from reading the Bible?” I got some real, transparent, everyday-life kinds of answers from people who were really struggling with reading the Bible.

Lots of people said things like procrastination, distractions, laziness, wasting time (like on social media), wrong priorities, poor time management. Here were a few specific reasons they gave—maybe you can identify:

· “Letting other things that seem more pressing take my focus and time.”

· “Saying I’ll read it later, and the next thing I know the day is over.”

· “There’s just not enough time in a day—I’m too busy.”

· “I don’t get enough sleep! Every time I try to read the Bible, I fall asleep.”

· “I have never been a reader. I always hated to read.”

· “Sometimes I just don’t feel like reading the Bible.”

· “I don’t know where to start. I’m intimidated by the material and knowing where to focus my attention.”

· “I haven’t seen any good results from reading the Bible—I’m disappointed. It’s hard to read something that isn’t working for me.”

· “It’s kind of a downward spiral…the less I read my Bible the less I want to.”

Do any of those sound familiar? If so, what can you do to stop the “downward spiral” and make daily Bible reading a daily habit so it can empower your life?  That’s what this plan is about.
