Making Sense of it All
Too often, branding is reduced to company logo, letterhead and business cards, as well as occasional PR campaigns. The thing is, it is possible to hire a good professional to create all of these things and the outcomes really have no relationship with the internal culture of the organization.
Brand, in reality, is the character of the organization, and the clarity with which it pursues its mission. When the people who the company serves encounter this character at work, a reputation is then created in the minds of those people. Unfortunately, too many companies focus too much on shaping reputation rather than building character. That's like building a fancy house with no foundation whatsoever.
Spend a while to think through the following and note down your thoughts.
- Imagine you were a customer of your company, what would you like the company to represent to you?
- List at least 2 (or more) things you must change about the current company culture to be able to earn this reputation?
- Prayerfully sketch out a plan for how you will initiate/implement these changes in the next week.
