A Team of Magicians?
No straw is given to your servants, yet they say to us, Make bricks! And behold, your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people. Exodus 5:16 AMPC
If you want your people to conjure results out of thin air, perhaps you should announce vacancies for magicians. In the real world, people need to be given the necessary resources in order to generate results. To expect otherwise would be like running a slave camp.
The Egyptians, for instance, increased the production quotas of their Jewish slaves even as they withdrew supply of basic raw material for the bricks they were required produce. Of course, they were no magicians, and so productivity suffered. The same thing is bound to happen if you do not provide the training, tools, and resources your team needs to get the job done.
Even God does not require us to live godly, for instance, without first providing the wherewithal. “For His divine power has bestowed upon us all things that [are requisite and suited] to life and godliness ...” (2 Peter 1:3 AMPC)
To reach the conclusion that a team member or even business unit has failed in delivering results, you have to give a reasonably long rope and provide the necessary support. Jesus told the parable of the owner of a vineyard who was going to cut down a fig tree for instance, but was restrained by one of his workers who then requested more time to “dig around it, and put manure [on the soil].” (Luke 13:6-9 AMPC).
“Give it another year”, urged the vinedresser in the parable. Many times, time is the one resource that you are seemingly unable to give to a team member who is not yet punching at their weight level. Still, you must view your people as more than just factors of production; you must view them as people in whom you should be willing to make an investment, even if they don't ultimately come good. Remember, Jesus died for many who will still reject Him.
