Fake it at Your Own Risk
A team of itinerant Jews who were traveling from town to town casting out demons planned to experiment by using the name of the Lord Jesus. The incantation they decided on was this: “I adjure you by Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” Acts 19:13 TLB
The idea of faking it until you make it is surprisingly very popular among 'church folks'. There is a lot of self-delusion and pretense that is passed off as 'packaging'. The idea of packaging now covers a wide spectrum ranging from mild exaggerations to outright misrepresentations. This is no way to build a brand, and for the believer, there certainly can and will be consequences.
The Christian business leader ought to recognize that our real competition is not some other company trying to serve the same customer segment or market. Your real competition is actually the devil (Ephesians 6:12). The only person who really stands to gain from the failure of your vision is not some other company; it is the devil who then succeeds in thwarting you.
Meanwhile, nothing stacks the battle against you like when you try to “fake it until you make it”. When you do that, you are essentially lying, which is the same thing as declaring allegiance to the devil. For as the Bible says of the devil, “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44 NIV) Moreover, “ whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.” (Ecclesiastes. 10:8 KJV)
The seven sons of Sceva were of the 'fake it 'til you make it' theology school, and they got a terrible beating for it. It is an even bigger hit for the devil when he gets to afflict a believer who breaks the hedge of truth in a bid to 'package' their brand. For such a person, the consequences of lying can mean such reputational damage that they not only lose the business but also stand the risk of losing their faith to discouragement.
In building the brand, it is best to aim for telling the simple truth and ensure to leave no one with a false impression.
