God’s Revelation
Exodus 6:2-5
“I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the Lord I did not make myself known to them. I also established my covenant with them…I have heard the groaning of the Israelites…I have remembered my covenant.”
God chose not to reveal all of himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The story of his relationship with Moses and the Israelites is a progressive revelation of more and more of who God was through his name. God’s name reveals his character and very nature. The great “I am” is the self-existent one, who was, and is, and is to come, eternal. The revelation of God’s nature and name is not random, but tied to his covenant with us. During points of Israel’s journey, in their need, God heard, God saw, and God remembered his covenant. His relationship with us through Christ also includes ongoing revelation of who he is as we call out to him. Keep calling out, there is more.
Lord Jesus, thank you for making covenant with the great “I am” possible through your shed blood. Thank you for the revelation of who you are.
