Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
The Bread of Heaven
Exodus 16:31-32
“The people called the bread manna…‘Take an omer of manna and keep it for the generations to come, so they can see the bread I gave you to eat in the desert when I brought you out of Egypt.’”
Acts 2:42, 46
“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer…they broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts.”
The daily manna which God fed to his people in the desert and the daily breaking of bread in the homes of God’s people, the Church, both point to Christ. Jesus Christ is the Bread of Life, the essential food we cannot live without. Our dependence on Jesus cannot be just for salvation, but must be every day. We feed on Christ by living in complete dependence on him. We express that dependence in prayer, in faith for resources, in faith for discernment and decisions, and in trusting our very life (health and security) to Jesus. He is our life.
Lord Jesus, you are my life.
