Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
The Public Testimony of a Hidden Life
Jeremiah 17:7-8
“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water, that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Our strength, confidence, inner resources, and capacity to impact the world around us come from a hidden source when we trust in the Lord. Those around us might not see the stream of living water that we depend on, but they can see the evidence of that life in how we live, how we respond to pressure, how we forgive and how we walk in humility. There is finality in planting a tree. Its location and proximity to water will determine its future.
Have we planted our lives in the presence of the Lord?
Are we seeking His life each day?
The hidden nature of roots and their search for water to nourish the visible expression of the tree is a picture of the hidden life of prayer and meditation in God’s Word, which nurtures the visible worship of Christ’s followers. When extreme testing, drought or the lack of public worship/fellowship happens, it is the cultivated hidden worship and life with God which sustains us.
Lord Jesus, you are my river of life. Thank you for planting me in your presence and filling me with joy and fruit for your glory.
