Restoration
John 21:15
“ ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’ ‘Yes Lord,’ Peter replied, ‘You know that I love you.’ ‘Then feed my lambs,’ Jesus told him.”
We serve a God of restoration. Jesus pursued Peter after Peter had denied three times that he knew him and had led the disciples in a retreat to Galilee. Jesus addressed Peter by his original name and gave him the opportunity to choose again how he would relate to Jesus. When we fall away from Christ or deny him through our rebellion or pride, we too have a choice to make about how we will relate to Jesus going forward. Peter affirmed his love and friendship for Christ. Jesus then gave him another opportunity to serve in his Kingdom. The great Shepherd was inviting Peter to feed his lambs rather than feed Peter’s bank account or fishing future. Serving Jesus always begins with relationship.
When we stumble, are we disqualified from ever serving Jesus again?
Peter would emphatically say, no.
Thank you Jesus for your restoring love and mercy for me. I too choose to love and serve your lambs.
