Listening To The Word - 1 YearSample
Who’s Honor?
John 7:17-18
“If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth…”
The danger in Vocational ministry is that we do a lot of speaking and teaching of God’s word.
When we teach God’s word, are we impressing people with what we know, or are we communicating on behalf of God for life transformation?
Motives matter. It’s as we obey God’s word and choose to do God’s will that the truth of God becomes alive within us – and we are able to communicate those life-giving principles to others. Without the surrender of our will to God, ministry can be a dangerous place for people seeking their own honor.
Lord Jesus, I humble myself before you and choose to do your will. Guard my heart from pride and selfish ambition and make myself of no reputation that you may be glorified in and through me.
