Listening To The Word - 1 Year

DAY 108 OF 365

God Satisfies

Psalm 34:8, 10
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him…those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled.”

David’s escape from Saul left him with nothing but the Lord. He fled to the city of Gath, the same city that Goliath had come from (David was carrying Goliath’s sword as he entered the city). David was vulnerable, hungry and fearful. It was in this circumstance that he cried out to God for refuge, protection, provision and direction (Psalm 34), and he experienced a breakthrough. God delivered David from all his fears (Psalm 34:4). In hunger and thirst we have an opportunity to turn our need into prayer and cry out to the Lord. Hunger is created by God to be satisfied. Our appetite speaks to a need created by God which he desires to satisfy. David was satisfied by God both physically and spiritually. Jesus later invited his followers to direct their spiritual hunger toward God. Only God can fill the emptiness of our hearts.

Will we take our hunger, our needs, and our vulnerability to God and cry out to him?

Lord Jesus, you are my source. My eyes are on you and I look to you for life this day.
