Go: A 40-Day Journey To The Never ReachedSample
Faithful Women
By: Greg Mundis
I once talked with a pastor who’d done a study of go, digging deep into its meaning. He came to a startling conclusion—the word go means go!
Going involves a choice. Go could be going across the street or overseas. The choice to go is not restricted by economic position, intelligence or gender. There is, however, a choice of going alone or going together.
Matthew 28:1 says, “Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.” Matthew 28:8 says they “hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples” (NIV).
Though Jesus was labeled a criminal, the women remained faithful. The capacity of women to demonstrate trust, faith, and faithfulness is highlighted in the Gospels.
As I think about what I admire about Assemblies of God World Missions and our rich history, women’s service in missions tops my list. Women like Alice Wood, who in 1910 went to Argentina or Ann Tomaseck who in 1936, opened an orphanage on the Nepal-India border.
As in the case of the two Marys, teams of women have made amazing contributions to the work of the Kingdom. Consider the example of Pauline Smith and Adeline Wichman. In 1946, immediately after WWII, they arrived in Ghana, Africa, where they planted churches, taught Bible school, translated literature and evangelized.
When women answer the call to go together, the gates of hell must tremble. Ecclesiastes says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up….Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (4:9–12 NIV).
The significance of going together cannot be underestimated.
Go Together
If you’re a woman, consider how you can make associations with other women or resources that will allow you to reach your full potential for God and open doors for involvement in missions. If you’re a man, consider ways you can maximize your ministry by fully involving both women and men.
