Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 DaysSample
BIZARRE STORY
[Scheduled Reading: John 15-21]
Here’s the gospel storyline, in a nutshell:
➢ After 4,000 years of biblical history, our God comes to earth as The SEED.
➢ He is born a baby.
➢ He grows up a man.
➢ He dies as a slaughtered lamb.
➢ After a brief return to earth, He goes back to heaven. (Acts 1)
At first glance, it’s a bizarre story.
I recently read this quote: “Christianity is the only major religion to have as its central event the humiliation of its God.” (Church History by Bruce Shelley).
But for those of us tracking the biblical narrative as part of this 60-day read, it makes sense.
For 4,000 years, God has been routing The Seed through history. Meanwhile, Satan seeks to destroy The Seed.
At every turn there’s a threat. Even after Jesus was born, King Herod sought to kill all baby boys. But God routed Joseph to escape to Egypt.
Finally, The SEED is killed. Surely Satan thought the battle was over.
Instead, Jesus came back to life.
Satan must have been stunned! The Seed he had fought so hard to extinguish – could not be destroyed.
It’s been 2,000 years since that resurrection event.
The SEED lives on. But the battle is not over. Satan still has destructive powers and influence on earth.
But a day is coming in the future when the final blow will be delivered…
When The SEED will crush the head of the serpent, just as God promised in Genesis 3:15.
Let’s Review the Bible’s Big Picture
The Bible is about the journey of The Seed:
- that travels through 4,000 years,
- consisting of roughly 60+ generations,
- connected by six (6) key reset events,
- focused on two (2) resurrection events,
- which set up one (1) climactic redemptive event: the recreation of the Heavens and the Earth.
We just covered the first of the two resurrection events. Everything so far is historical. The rest of the Bible’s Big Picture is future events – prophecy.
