Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 DaysSample
BIBLE HISTORY
[Scheduled Reading: Acts 1-7]
After his death and miraculous resurrection, Jesus ascends back to heaven.
The disciples watch as Jesus floats into the clouds. What an incredible sight!
So what happens next? Lots of preaching and evangelism.
The apostles are fired up and more committed than ever to spread the message of The Seed.
Peter preaches actively. A man named Stephen preaches. Paul comes along soon to preach.
And guess how these preachers preached?
By sharing Bible history!
Of course they didn’t yet have the printed Bible collection that we have today. These preachers would have called it something different – maybe the “history of Christ… or the “history of Israel.”
Anyway, that seemed to be the common method for evangelism - to share their history, connecting The SEED to their forefathers all the way back to Abraham.
Consider Stephen’s famous speech (Acts Chapter 7) just before being stoned by the crowd.
The speech was nearly 1,300 words!
Stephen chronicles Abraham’s journey from Ur to Haran, then to the present-day land of Israel.
He covers Isaac and Jacob...and Joseph.
Then Moses and Joshua… David and Solomon.
He covers 2,000 years of Bible history.
Stephen knew that the people likely knew their history, too.
But they didn’t appreciate when Stephen suggested that it was their fathers who murdered the prophets… and murdered Jesus!
This made the crowds mad. They rushed toward Stephen and stoned him to death on the spot.
Stephen’s final conversation before his death was sharing the history of Israel with the crowd that would eventually kill him.
If you want a refresher of the past 50 days of our Bible read, take special notice of Acts Chapter 7.
It’s a great summary of Bible history.
