Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 54 OF 60

ROLES OF THE SEED

[Scheduled Reading: Hebrews 1-7]

The book of Hebrews seems mostly focused on Jesus Christ… The SEED.

The author (unknown) takes time to celebrate Jesus’ unique roles.

- Jesus is God’s son (Ch. 1). He’s the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature.

- Jesus is greater than angels (Ch. 1 & 2). This seems like a no-brainer to us, but angels have always been special. Angels are considered “sons of God”, just as Jesus is a son of God. But of course, Jesus is much greater.

- Jesus is human, of flesh and blood (Ch. 2).He was made like his brother (us) so that he could suffer for us.

- Jesus is greater than Moses (Ch. 3). Again, another no-brainer to us. But to early Christians, Moses’ role and favor with God was legendary.

- Jesus is the Great High Priest (Ch. 4, 5, 7 & 8), offering up a sacrifice for sins.

- Jesus is the final sacrifice (Ch. 10), bringing to an end the era of animal sacrifices.

Hebrews is a book that should be studied. It’s a tough book to just read casually or in a “Power Read” manner.

Recently I listened to the book repeatedly, over a half dozen times in a week-long period, seeking to become more familiar with its teachings.

For New Testament readers seeking to understand the deep symbolism of Jesus Christ, the book of Hebrews is a treasure.
