Worship reveals what (or whom) we value most in our lives. It is a response of love and adoration that affirms the inherent worthiness we ascribe to things or people. And it isn’t without formative effect. What we love and adore and focus our time on shapes who we are becoming.
Daily Prayer: Lord, teach us to worship in spirit and in truth.
Daily Practice: Scripture says that those who make idols will become like them (Psalm 115). We become like what we worship. When we worship Jesus, more and more our hearts and minds are formed into his likeness. We become like him - loving, forgiving, obedient, wise, and free. What do you worship? Success, approval of others, wealth, a political party, yourself, your partner, etc.? How does the worship of these other things shape who you are becoming?
