COMIC BIBLE - The Book Of GodSample
"THE PRESERVATION OF THE BIBLE"
As a collection of writings, the Bible features numerous writers from different places and different eras. Its earliest writings may be as much as 3,500 years old. The latest writings are just under 2,000 years old. That's a stretch of nearly 1,500 years from "In the beginning..." to "...Amen". This makes the Bible's unity something incredible to consider, until you consider that when the first words were written, the final words were already planned.
The preservation of the Bible over this long period of time is due to a few things. For one, as the Word of God, it would make sense that God would not let it get lost to history. Another reason: as the Word of God, it would make sense that the people who collected and protected it would take that task seriously. The Bible's author is eternal; the Bible's purpose is not yet completely fulfilled; the Bible's believers recognize its importance.
In the time that the Bible has existed, kingdoms have risen and fallen. Think about King Nebuchadnezzar, who built such wonderful things. He died. The buildings he built are dust. But he has one lasting legacy: a song of praise to God, recorded in the book of Daniel. Truly, a vivid reflection of Isaiah's proclamation: "The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God endures forever."
Consider how Israel turned from God and forgot his Word, but under Josiah's reign it was found and the people turned their hearts back toward God and his precepts. Consider Jesus' promise that "until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
But there is one more reason it is has lasted so long and been preserved so well over all this time: because it is God's message to you. God's good news for you. God's love letter to you.
It lasted until now for you.
Questions:
Have you ever considered that the Bible is a personal message from almighty God? How does that idea change how you think about the Bible?
What do you think the "everything" that must be accomplished is that Jesus mentioned?
