Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
JEREMIAH 51:
In today’s chapter in Jeremiah, the Lord continues the long prophecy against Babylon. This chapter foreshadows what will happen to the figurative Babylon in Revelation 18.
PROVERBS 11a:
Today we begin reading Proverbs chapter 11. An important thing I didn’t mention before is that the proverbs we are reading in this book represent principles, not promises. This particularly needs to be remembered for verses that talk about prosperity. There will be times, such as what Jeremiah experienced, when no amount of Godly living will bring us wealth. However, the principles hold true.
1JOHN 4.15—5:
In his first letter, John has been giving us important keys that will unlock assurance and victory in our spiritual lives. Those key also can provide confidence and power in our prayers.
Let’s pray.
Dear heavenly Father, today I ask that You assure both me and my listener of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and in our hearts. Again, John insists that one sign of that is that we have Christ’s love for others. So Holy Spirit, help us to show pure love to others. But our being loving does not mean that we accept what new teachers say without question. We must test people who come claiming to be qualified to teach us, because Christ’s enemies are in the world spreading error. Thank You, heavenly Father, that You have given the Holy Spirit to us. He lives in us, and He is more powerful than the deceiving spirits in this world. O Holy Spirit, give us discernment. Move us to have deeper love for Christ, as well as for other people. Perfect our love for both. Thank You that this Scripture says that if our love for Christ is perfect, then we will not be afraid of punishment, and then we also will know that You are helping us in our prayers.
