DAY 44 OF 82

JEREMIAH 19-20:
In yesterday’s reading in Jeremiah, we again heard some often-quoted verses. In chapter 17 the Lord himself beautifully paraphrased Psalm 1. Right after that are these noteworthy verses:

Jer. 17:9 GNT “Who can understand the human heart?
There is nothing else so deceitful;
it is too sick to be healed.
10 I, the Lord, search the minds
and test the hearts of people.
I treat each of them according to the way they live,
according to what they do.”

Then in chapter 18, we also heard the famous passage about the Lord being like a potter, which Paul refers to in Romans 9.

PSALM 147:
Today’s poem is Psalm 147. You will notice a huge difference in tone between today’s reading in Jeremiah and Psalm 147! This is our second Hallelujah psalm. And hallelujah can be translated according to its meaning as “Praise the LORD.” This psalm has incredible depth.

1CORINTHIANS 3:10—4:
In our reading in 1st Corinthians today, Paul is still ‘going on about’ the same thing as in the previous chapters. He returns to the subject of himself and Apollos in chapter 4— as that typifies the division in the Corinthian church. To give the connection, we’ll start reading at chapter 3 verse 10.

Let’s pray.
Dear Heavenly Father, we love You and desire that we might truly grow into maturity as followers of Christ who are joined as one with Him. Help us to think in a mature way about the talents and ministries of our leaders, praising You for them, and not being envious or jealous of them. Also, please keep us from quarrels and divisions over such things. In training us to be mature, give our leaders wisdom so that we can be nourished by the solid spiritual food of your Word. Through your Spirit, train us up so that we are not fooled by the world’s wisdom disguised with clever words. Transform our minds so that the things we consider our legacy in this world will be built on the foundation of Christ Jesus, and be made of precious materials that will withstand the fire of testing. May our lives— being like plants in Your field— count for Christ, and may we bear fruit that remains and bears more fruit. Thank You for how our being joined in oneness with Christ transforms how we think of others and everything else.
