DAY 45 OF 82

JEREMIAH 21-22:
The following verses from Jeremiah 20 have been often quoted as a reason for memorizing Scripture:

Jer. 20:9 NLT But if I say I’ll never mention the LORD
or speak in his name,
his word burns in my heart like a fire.
It’s like a fire in my bones!
I am worn out trying to hold it in!
I can’t do it!

Remember that the priest Pashur put Jeremiah in stocks. The Passhur that time was the son of Immer. Today it is evidently a different Passhur who visits Jeremiah, the son of Malchiah.

PSALM 148:
Today we will read Psalm 148. The last psalms just keep getting more and more exuberant in praise!

1CORINTHIANS 4:14—5:
Paul is about to drop a bombshell in 1st Corinthians chapter 5, and it is good to see the transition from chapter 4.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, now that we have been joined as one with You, help us to live lives appropriate to that reality! When it comes to living with our fellow believers, help us to not have peace in our hearts if we still love some and despise others, or if we are proud of one leader within our church and despise another. Help us to live as those who know that You will one day reveal all dark secrets and expose the hidden purposes in our hearts. Lord, may that vision increase our motivation to wholeheartedly obey and follow You, and use that vision to destroy our pride. Dear Lord, like the apostles of Paul’s day, there still are missionaries who leave their families and lands for the sake of spreading the Good News of your kingdom. And when they compare their current difficulties with the lives they left behind in their home countries, they still experience the stark disparities that Paul spoke of in chapter 4, verses 8-14. Lord, give them the rich satisfaction of seeing spiritual fruit. Give them disciples like Timothy was to Paul, who will carry on their work when they are gone. And grant them the same Kingdom power that Paul spoke of.
