Read To Me Daily Semester 3Sample
JEREMIAH 17-18:
One catches so clearly how trapped Jeremiah was in the time of God’s judgment, and how hot God’s anger was against Judah. Jeremiah’s audience would not have appreciated him telling them where the Lord said they could ‘go’! No wonder he so often weeps and cries out in despair. God’s verdict in 15:2— which shows his sovereign choices— is repeated in Revelation:
Jer. 15:1 GNT Then the Lord said to me, “Even if Moses and Samuel were standing here pleading with me, I would not show these people any mercy. Make them go away; make them get out of my sight.
2 When they ask you where they should go, tell them that I have said:
Some are doomed to die by disease—
that's where they will go!
Others are doomed to die in war—
that's where they will go!
Some are doomed to die of starvation—
that's where they will go!
Others are doomed to be taken away as prisoners—
that's where they will go!
PSALM 146:
Today’s poem, Psalm 146, is the first of five Hallelujah psalms. In the GNT, ‘hallelujah’ is translated, “Praise the Lord.”
1CORINTHIANS 3:
The topic of chapter 3 of 1st Corinthians is still related to that verse from Jeremiah that Paul quoted about the one thing we can boast about— that is, about knowing the Lord. And chapter 3 builds on what Paul has just said about wisdom, as he moves into discussing how to think about different Christian leaders.
Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, we thank you for the wonderful and mysterious truth of the unity among the Trinity. That is why there is no conflict in Scripture also naming God’s Spirit as Your Spirit. And the one Holy Spirit IS that entity which Paul spoke of as ‘the mind of Christ’. We thank You, Holy Spirit, that you give us the mind of Christ. We thank You that You give us wisdom and discernment that the world cannot understand. You help us to understand what Paul was saying in 1st Corinthians. Thank You that You have revealed in our Bibles the wisdom of God that was for so many centuries hidden from mankind. We can now know the wisdom through which we will be given the right to share your glory forever, as You planned before the world was created. Holy Spirit, keep us from pride and boasting because of the wisdom You give us, because when we become proud, we have left your wisdom and gone back to the world’s wisdom.
