Lent: With One VoiceSample

WE NEED GOD

Do you remember times in your life when you felt insecure and out of your comfort zone? I recall the time my wife and I came home from the hospital with our first child, Elyse. We were thinking, ‘Now what do we do?’ I have never been more scared in my life. In times like these we reach out for God. We call upon Him for His wisdom and direction. Sadly, we only seem to go to God when we are overwhelmed and at our wit’s end. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 1 that the reality is we will always be lacking if we depend solely on our intellect, our abilities, and ourselves. We must always depend on God. We can easily make mistakes if we rely on our own faculties. We must depend on Him and His wisdom because His ways and thoughts are higher than ours.

FOR REFLECTION
• When was the last time you depended totally on God? How did it turn out?
• What areas of your life do you feel totally confident in? What areas do you feel totally incapable in?
• Can we give those things to God and ask for His wisdom and strength?

PRAYER
Lord, forgive me for my pride and my lack of dependence on You. I recognize that without You I can do nothing. Lord I echo the songwriter who wrote, ‘Lord I need Thee, Oh I need Thee, every hour I need Thee.’ Lord, I need You now and all the days of my life. Amen.
