Wow, God! (An Advent Journey)Sample
WOW, GOD. WITH YOU, I CAN HAVE MEANING IN MY LIFE.
Experience
I want to be serious about getting more meaning out of my life. Christmas is the season of meaning, after all. I’ve been told if I work hard, keep my life “on track,” meaning will come. Except, that hasn’t worked so far, and I’m beginning to wonder why I’m working so hard. I’m looking for meaning that’s going to change all of me. I need an improvement that’s going to bring depth. New life to my life. Something great. If the change is true, it should reach all my life. My family life could use the change. I’m hoping work will see some change. Why not have something good at the core of all areas of my life, like a foundation for my whole life built out of wisdom and peace?
The Bible has lots of help about things like wisdom and peace. When I read it every now and then, I sense something deeper in me wake up. Yeah, that’s a first step toward change - reading the Bible more than just at church on Sundays. If meaning is what I’m after, I wonder what God has to say about finding meaning in my life.
Wow, God. With You, I can have meaning in my life.
Respond
Proverbs 21:21 says that “whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.” Who wouldn’t want those good things in their life? A life with a deep sense of dignity, abundance and… well, life? God wants your life to be full of meaning, and He understands this in you because He became human Himself when He sent Jesus to earth at Christmas. This is why the season has meaning. Now, what’s your next step toward meaning? It could be big, or it could be small, but there’s always one next step. Maybe your next step is simply reading and focusing on today’s proverb. Take a moment to think about how God wants to give meaning to your life.
Pray
God, I want my life to mean something. I’m ready to see what it takes to do that. Help me know what’s next.
