THE POWER OF SAME MISSION
You're Doing Better Than You Think You Are
God is talking about us behind our backs.
Don't worry, He's not scheming to hurt us or play games with our emotions. Instead, He's speaking a better word about us than we may ever hear from anyone else.
When we live consistently for the sake of God, it's understandable to want to see obvious results - things we can touch and see. This makes our work easier. But God doesn't always show us things the way we want to see them.
John the Baptist is a good example of this. John is the man sent to pave the way for Jesus. He announced Jesus to the world, baptizing many in His name. Yet, we read that later John was locked inside a dingy prison cell, wondering if his work had been worth it.
We all face disappointment in our expectations. And we cry out to God and ask, "Is this how it's supposed to be?" Living for a distinct purpose and not seeing the end result can leave us frustrated, discouraged, and disillusioned. But it's important in those moments to remember God sees us and is still working on our behalf.
Once John's messengers left, Jesus began to talk about John behind his back. He spoke to the crowd and said no one who ever lived was greater than John the Baptist.
So when our lives get burdened down with feelings of failure and condemnation as we pursue God's mission in our lives, God is above us, seeing His purposes play out. And though we can't hear Him yet, He's saying, "Well done, my good and faithful servant. You're doing better than you think you are!"
Pray:
God, I know You are all powerful. I trust that my life's mission is never pursued in vain, for You are the One who called me to it and You will be the One that sees it completed. Strengthen me today to overcome any doubts or discouragement that creep into my mind. In Jesus' name, Amen.
