Streaks: Bible ReadingSample
There are a lot of great sections in this piece of Jesus’ sermon, but one of the most famous things He ever said is dropped in at verse 12. Whether you are familiar with the Bible or not, you’ve probably heard the “golden rule” before. We teach this principle to young children when we’re trying to get them to understand empathy, and to consider how their actions might affect the life of another human being. But Jesus doesn’t tell us to follow this rule just because it’s the nice thing to do. No, Jesus brilliantly points out that every moral guideline given in the Bible can be traced back to this concept. If you treat others the way you would want to be treated, you will be following the Bible perfectly. That may sound mind-blowingly simple, but that is the brilliance of Jesus. However, knowing this rule and following it are two very different things. So, it begs the question: how are you doing with the golden rule on a daily basis?
As you read today, ask yourself these two questions:
- What verse or phrase stood out to me the most?
- What can I do with that in my life today?

About this Plan
Jesus’ most famous sermon is found spread across three chapters of the book of Matthew, and it is absolutely packed with incredible wisdom and intense challenges. We will spend one week focusing on bite-sized chunks of this message, and building a Bible-reading streak. If we will chew on these words and set out to apply one concept each day, we will see our lives changed dramatically in seven short days.
