Streaks: Bible ReadingSample
In this next section of Jesus’ sermon, He begins with a reminder that everything He is about to teach us is designed to help other people catch a glimpse of God and how good He really is. The way we live our lives and treat others will determine a great deal of what the people around us will think about God and Christianity…we should not take that responsibility lightly! Then, Jesus starts into a list of several topics that people often misunderstand. In each of those areas, He deals with the heart or motivation of the person, rather than just the actions themselves. No matter the issue, Jesus seems more concerned with our motivations (the why) as opposed to our actions (the what). Which are you most often concerned with, and does that line up with what Jesus has to say?
As you read today, ask yourself these two questions:
- What verse or phrase stood out to me the most?
- What can I do with that in my life today?

About this Plan
Jesus’ most famous sermon is found spread across three chapters of the book of Matthew, and it is absolutely packed with incredible wisdom and intense challenges. We will spend one week focusing on bite-sized chunks of this message, and building a Bible-reading streak. If we will chew on these words and set out to apply one concept each day, we will see our lives changed dramatically in seven short days.
