The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 12 OF 40

Now that we’ve covered some common spiritual disciplines, let’s move on to some basic Bible doctrine every Christian needs to know. What better place to start than with God Himself?

There is only one God, but that God exists in three equal parts that make up a unified whole. We call that three-in-one Godhead the “Trinity” (a word not found in scripture, but useful in describing this big idea that would otherwise be difficult to discuss). Although all the parts of the Trinity share the same character and nature, each has a specific function within the whole and, when discussed separately from the other parts, is referred to with a name that relates to that part’s specific function and personality. The “Trinity” is made up of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. When discussed as a whole, we refer to the Trinity simply as God, using the pronouns He, Him, and His. God the Father is also commonly referred to simply as God.

As human beings, we are limited in our knowledge and understanding of God, but the Bible gives us insight into His character and nature. Let’s look at just a few truths about God found in the Bible.

God has existed from the beginning.

Use the Target method to study today’s passages.

First Question:  Outer Ring- What does it say? (Summarize the passage.)

Second Question:  Inner Ring- What is God saying to me? (Take it personally.)

Third Question:  Center Heart- How will I respond? (Plan for change.)

Thank God for the privilege of knowing of Him and knowing Him personally.
