The Devotional to End All Devotionals

DAY 17 OF 40

To review, the CUT method is so named because it requires you to look at a passage of scripture three times before leaving it; once for Context, once for Understanding, and once for the application of Truth.

When deciding how to apply truth, ask yourself this question: “Where do I go from here?”

Think about everything you’ve learned about the passage you’re studying so far. Let God show you what it has to do with you. Chances are, He’s already started. When He speaks to your heart, consider writing it down so you can keep track of His activity in your life over time. What you write could also become a great source of accountability as you grow and learn.

Don’t know what to write? Consider the following categories of thought:

Encouragement:

What truths were you reminded of? What beliefs/thoughts were confirmed by what you studied today? In what areas of your life were you encouraged to continue as you have been?

Challenge:

What changes did God ask you to make in your life as a result of your study? How will you respond? How will your life be different today, tomorrow, and next week as a result of what you learned?

Questions:

What questions do you still have? Where will you look for answers?

Now for our study.

In the Bible, Jesus is sometimes referred to as “the Word” because He is the embodiment of the truth contained in God’s Word, the Bible. All events in the Bible lead up to, stem from, and hinge on the existence of Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection, and the redemption (rescuing) of man made possible by Him. So, in essence, He is the Word in living form.

Jesus is God’s Son and was with Him in the beginning. Though He is a part of the Trinity and fully God, He became a man while on this earth, experiencing the same trials and temptations that we do. However, He was without sin.

Because Jesus was without sin, He was the only perfect sacrifice for the sin of all men. His death and resurrection made it possible for us to be forgiven and to become children of God.

Use the CUT method to study today’s passages.

Thank God for the gift of Jesus.
