Counting The CostSample
WHY DO I NEED GOD'S WORD?
One of the biggest steps for National Football League rookies is memorizing the playbook. When they get drafted and join their new team, their coach hands them a binder filled with plays, formations, coverages and sets. If a player decides to never open that book, he soon discovers that he is never going to make it in the league. That playbook is the thing that gets players prepared for the battle that is coming.
Scripture helps us in the same way. In the Bible, God gives us all sorts of tools for our lives. He teaches us how to handle tough situations. He consoles us in the midst of hard times. There are even basic things in there, like how to save and manage money.
The most important thing about the Bible, however, is that it allows us to get to know the One who wrote it. God reveals Himself to us in His Word. When we read Scripture, we get to see God’s heart for us and how much He truly loves us. We also see His challenge to us on how we should love others. For someone who follows Jesus, it is the most important book you could ever read!
Action Point:
Make a pact with yourself to dive into God’s Word. Don’t just read it though, digest it. Ask yourself questions like: “What is God trying to teach me here?” or “How does this apply to me?” and see God use Scripture in new ways in your life!
Question(s):
How can studying God’s Word help you get to know Him better? Why does God make it such a big deal?
Who in my life can hold me accountable about reading God’s Word?
