Be Your Own Worship Leader

Camps and Retreats are always a blast. We love the friendships, the speakers and the games, the food, and especially the worship. Worship time at camp is always a little glimpse of what it will be like in Heaven, with tons of other believers around you singing to the King with everything they have! But even one day after camp is over, it’s a bit different. If you’d walk into the auditorium then, there’d be no band or lights, no music or students - just a bunch of empty chairs and dirty snot rags. Most of us would walk right out and find something else to do.

But God expects more. He wants us to worship Him both in spirit and in truth. Worshipping God in the middle of a Camp service definitely helps us get into the spirit of things. But sometimes we can be so enamored with the awesome effects around us that we don’t even know what we’re singing about. How truthful is that? People who can worship God when no one else is around and without all the cool effects are true worshippers. If you can worship God in the empty auditorium the day after camp, that’s worshiping in truth!

And that’s what God wants! He loves our worship during camp time, but He also loves our worship during normal days back home. He loves when we can sing songs with the worship band, but He also loves when we can lead ourselves. He loves when we praise Him with music, but He also loves when we adore Him through obedience, kindness, giving, and serving. He enjoys our worship when it’s easy, but He may even love it a bit more when we have to work at it on our own.

You may not feel like God has called you to be a worship leader on stage in front of others, but we are all called to be a worship leader to ourselves. So, take some time today on your own to show God how much you truly love Him by worshipping Him with everything you have now.
