21 Days After Camp

DAY 16 OF 21

The Deception of Sin

Years ago, I heard a story how Eskimo would protect their villages by trapping wolves. They would dip a knife in animal blood and freeze it a block of ice. The wolves would be attracted to the smell of the blood and would find the deadly popsicle. They would lick vigorously, trying to get just a taste of the blood. Once they spend hours licking, not realizing their tongue had been numbed by the ice, they finally reached the blood (and the blade of the knife). Their thirst for blood had been quenched, but the problem was that the blood they had been tasting was their own. Their “numbness” had caused their own death. Sin is the same way. It seems fun for a short season, but it will leave you wanting and numb, and will ultimately lead to your own spiritual death. Sin is not a game to be played with. Sin is no respecter of person. I’ve heard it said, “Sin will take you further than you want to go and keep you longer than you want to stay! It fascinates and then it assassinates!”

The enemy knows what will trip you up. The Bible even says it’s creeping at your door. It’s always waiting for an opportunity to trip you up. There is power in sin, but you don't have to live in sin! You are set free! Who the Son sets free is free indeed! You can rule sin, sin does not have to rule you! Accept that you are a sinner, believe that He can forgive you of your sins and confess your sins to Him. Find an accountability partner. What are some things that God has asked you to give up at camp? Have you followed through with your commitment?
